Comprehensive Conservation Works Delivered in a Condensed Programme
In 2025, AGA Heritage Conservation successfully completed an extensive programme of restoration works at Aberdare Hall, Cardiff University — one of the university’s most significant historic buildings.
The project was carefully planned and delivered within a nine-week programme, timed to coincide with the university’s holiday period to minimise disruption while allowing a substantial volume of specialist conservation work to be undertaken.
Scope of Works
The works at Aberdare Hall involved a wide range of heritage disciplines, including:
Restoration of 150 crittall windows, retaining historic glass while improving performance and longevity
Roofing works, addressing areas of deterioration and ensuring long-term weather protection
Terracotta restoration, repairing and conserving decorative architectural elements
Masonry cleaning and repairs, carried out using conservation-approved methods to protect original materials
Restoration of cast iron rainwater goods, preserving original features while improving functionality
Each element of the project was delivered using traditional craftsmanship combined with modern conservation best practice.
Programme & Delivery
Delivering this volume of work within a tight nine-week timeframe required detailed planning, coordination, and skilled execution. Our team worked closely with Cardiff University and project partners to ensure works were completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest conservation standards.
Preserving a Landmark Building
The completed works have significantly enhanced the condition, appearance, and resilience of Aberdare Hall, safeguarding the building’s architectural character while ensuring it remains fit for continued use.
This project reflects AGA Heritage Conservation’s ability to deliver complex, large-scale heritage projects within challenging programmes — without compromising on quality or historical integrity.
