Work Commencing January 2026
AGA Heritage Conservation is delighted to announce a significant new project set to begin in January 2026 on Metal Street. This exciting development involves the full conversion of the Old Rectory into a beautifully restored four-bedroom dwelling complemented by a dedicated art gallery space.
This historic building, long admired for its character and presence, will undergo a sensitive and comprehensive transformation that respects its architectural heritage while ensuring it can be enjoyed and used for generations to come.
A Full External Restoration
The project involves extensive conservation work across the entire external envelope, including:
Roofing works to restore structural integrity and weather protection
Stone repairs to address decay and preserve original detailing
Leaded glass repairs, ensuring these delicate historic features are fully restored and functional
A new extension, designed to complement the existing architecture
French drain installation to improve drainage and protect the structure long-term
Each element will be approached with traditional craftsmanship and careful material selection to maintain the building’s historic character.
A Complete Internal Transformation
Inside, the Old Rectory will undergo a full internal fit-out, creating a comfortable, elegant home and a refined art gallery space. This includes new layouts, bespoke joinery, traditional finishes, and the integration of modern services — all delivered with an emphasis on quality and sensitivity to the building’s heritage.
Preserving Character, Creating Opportunity
This project perfectly reflects AGA Heritage Conservation’s commitment to restoring historic structures with authenticity, purpose, and respect. The Old Rectory’s new chapter on Metal Street will blend heritage with contemporary use, offering a space that honours its past while supporting new forms of creativity and living.
We look forward to sharing progress updates once work begins in 2026.
