Transforming a Victorian Coach House into a New Family Home
Work is progressing beautifully at Mews Cottage, where our team at AGA Heritage Conservation is converting a charming Victorian coach house into a characterful four–bedroom dwelling. This project blends traditional craftsmanship with sensitive design to ensure the building’s heritage is preserved while creating a warm and functional modern home.
A New Orangery with Victorian Character
One of the focal points of this transformation is the construction of an elegant orangery designed to complement the original building. Built with robust cast iron columns and a slate roof finished with Victorian clay ridge tiles, the structure echoes the architectural detail and craftsmanship of the era.
Victorian Glasshouse Inspiration
To create an authentic Victorian glasshouse feel, the orangery incorporates:
Hardwood arched windows arranged in beautiful colonnades
Generous roof lights to bring in natural light
A design approach rooted in traditional proportions and materials
The result will be a bright, timeless space that feels completely at home within the Victorian heritage of the building.
Preserving the Past, Enhancing the Future
As the project continues, our focus remains on retaining original character, celebrating the craftsmanship of the past, and creating a home that will be loved for generations.
