We’re pleased to share another major milestone from our ongoing restoration project at Metal Street, with Phase 1 now complete.
This first phase has focused on the main house and façade works, carefully restoring the building and bringing its historic character back to life.
Throughout the project, our team has worked with a strong focus on conservation and attention to detail. From the larger elements of the building fabric through to the smaller original features, the aim has always been to retain and restore as much of the building’s character as possible.
Restoring the House and Façades
The completion of the house and façade works marks a significant point in the transformation of Metal Street.
As with any historic building, successful restoration is about understanding what can be retained, what needs careful repair and where traditional materials and craftsmanship are required.
We’ve previously shared some of the detailed conservation work taking place at Metal Street, including the careful removal of layers of old paint to reveal and restore original brass fittings. These smaller details are just as important as the larger works in preserving the identity and story of the building.
With Phase 1 complete, it’s fantastic to see these elements coming together and the character of the property being revealed once again.
Next Up – Phase 2
Although Phase 1 is complete, there’s still more to come at Metal Street.
Phase 2 will focus on the Gallery and the new extension, continuing the transformation and introducing contemporary, functional spaces alongside the restored historic building.
The extension is an important part of the overall project and demonstrates how thoughtful contemporary design can sit alongside historic architecture. Rather than competing with the original building, the new elements are being carefully considered to complement its character while providing the functionality required for its future use.
It’s a balance between conservation and progression – respecting what is already there while allowing the building to evolve.
We’re incredibly proud of what the team has achieved during Phase 1 and look forward to sharing more as we move into the next stage of this exciting project.
