There’s always a sense of excitement when the scaffolding begins to come down on a heritage project. It’s the first opportunity to see months of careful craftsmanship come together, revealing the building as it was intended to be seen.

At Charles Williams Primary School, the transformation is becoming clear.

The newly installed arched sash windows, beautifully restored cast iron rainwater goods, fresh lime plaster and breathable KEIM mineral paint finish are bringing new life to this historic school while remaining true to its original character.

Restoring Traditional Features

Every element of the external restoration has been approached with care and attention to detail. The new timber arched sash windows have been designed to complement the original architecture, while the restored cast iron rainwater goods retain an important part of the building’s historic fabric.

The application of traditional lime plaster, finished with a breathable KEIM mineral paint system, ensures the building can naturally regulate moisture while providing long-term protection to the masonry. This combination of traditional materials and modern conservation products helps preserve the fabric of the building for generations to come.

Continuing the Restoration

While the completed elevations already showcase the quality of the work, the project continues.

Our team is currently removing the existing cement render from the front elevation, replacing it with traditional breathable materials that are far more appropriate for a historic building of this age and construction.

Alongside this, our skilled joinery team is manufacturing bespoke replacement dormer windows, carefully replicating the original design to maintain the building’s architectural integrity.
